Mar Azul - Project Manager (PM), cost or investment?

Project Manager (PM), cost or investment?

When we embark on a new project it is important to consider its indirect and direct costs, establishing a clear structure for its conceptualization.

For example, an important indirect cost to consider would be the project design and its marketing and advertising costs. However, when we evaluate the project management area, it is important to ask ourselves: How much would it cost me not to have a Project Manager?

For this we must first consider: What is truly the role of a Project Manager? The answer is simple: its only function is to look after the interests of the project, integrating all the actors to ensure that the objectives (cost, time and quality) of the project are met. He is a key figure who will have the time, focus, experience, and dedication to achieve compliance and execute the project to the client’s satisfaction.

Managing a project is a full-time job and a good Project Manager will always act as your ally and advisor to ensure the fulfillment of all the project objectives, so that you do not have to do it and can place your efforts in other functions. As people colloquially say “shoemaker to your shoe”.

If you have doubts about whether having a Project Manager figure is the right thing to do or not, we suggest the following questions:

Do you have the time to manage a project?

Many times we get saturated with work and underestimate a project by assuming that our current team will be able to cope with the functions without problem. Before long, we see that there would be change orders, budget increases and schedule delays. Sounds familiar?

Do you have a team or person who is solely dedicated to the project to be executed?

Each project is unique and unrepeatable by definition and presents its unique risks and challenges, so having a figure that focuses uniquely and specifically on the execution of each project increases the chances of its success. Losing focus on day-to-day execution due to diluting features is inherently risky for your project.

Do you really have the technical and administrative experience to carry out the project?

Having an ally who is trained and specialized in executing projects is extremely valuable when it comes to reducing risks during execution. In addition, technical knowledge and specific experience in the type of work to be executed, together with lessons learned from multiple similar previous experiences, give a Project Manager a great advantage against someone who does not handle these issues on a daily basis.

Finally, a good Project Manager will understand that their role is to offer a service to their client and at Mar Azul Projects we have strived to implement standardized and structured processes to guarantee a level of service of excellence to our clients regardless of the magnitude of their projects. We are a team of engineers and technicians committed to providing personalized services fully adaptable to your needs, from 100m2 projects to megaprojects.
